How This Works

Mission Statement
Found Art! strives to make the world a better place right now by empowering people across to globe to share on a soul level. We believe in the power of art to communicate and heal. We believe all people are creative and that the expression of that creativity opens the heart of both the creator and the receiver. Open hearts communicate at a deeper level, are naturally more compassionate, and are more aware and concerned about our global family.

•Register

In order to use this website, you must open an account. The
registration is free, and it will give you access to all of the site’s
features as well as let you register and search for Found Art
worldwide.

Signing up to be a member of Found Art is brief and painless. We don’t ask for anything we don’t need to help you get the most out of the site.

Create

Choose a material on which or with which you will create your art. A good size might be something about the size of your hand. Smaller pieces may be too easily overlooked. Some materials you could use are:

  • mailing tags
  • playing cards
  • index cards
  • clay
  • rocks
  • pieces of bark (please only use that which a tree has naturally
    dropped)
  • postcards
  • shells
  • stiffed fabric
  • cardboard
  • cardstock
  • bookmarks

Create your own unique art. This can be as simple as copying your favorite quote or poem on to an index card. If you want to add more to your quote, you can add a few doodles, stickers, or pictures cut from a magazine. Or you can:

  • make a collage
  • sketch a picture
  • paint a design
  • sew a patch
  • stamp an image
  • calligraphy a word or phrase
  • write a poem
  • cut out an image your child colored

Express yourself in any way you desire. The only rule is to keep your message positive and uplifting. We agree that art with a negative message can be constructive, educational, and motivating. But, for the scope of this project, we are choosing to stick with positive
messages.

Slap on a sticker! Print out one of our stickers or make one of your own. If you write your own message, be sure to include the web address for Found Art (http://www.foundart.org) and/or your Found Art Blogger address so that anyone who finds your art can find you.

If you’d like, write your own personal message of peace, goodwill, or blessing for everyone who comes into contact with your art. If you don’t want to put this into words, keep your intention in mind whenever you touch your pieces of art.

Share
Look for places around your community to share your art. You may want to punch a hole into your art and add a string so it can be tied onto things. Here are a few suggestions to get you started:
  • leave on tables in a hospital waiting room
  • slip under doors in college dormitories
  • hang from a tack on a bulletin board (try community bulletin boards at grocery stores)
  • attached to the slats of a park bench
  • leave on tables in hotel lobbies and restaurants
  • place in books being returned to the library
  • set on bus seats
  • drop in mail boxes for postal employees to enjoy
  • give to store employees who could use a smile
  • share with friends at church or other organizations
  • leave with your tip at a restaurant
  • tie to your neighbor’s front door
  • ask at nursing homes and children’s hospitals if you can leave art for their patients
  • make some for your child’s teachers
  • leave in lunch boxes
  • hide in the woods or on a mountain top (leave clues to find your art on your page)
Choose places carefully. Make sure that your art will be seen and not considered litter. If you are ever in doubt, ask for permission before leaving your art behind. And never deface another’s property. If you leave art in a library book, make sure your art is absolutely dry and will not stick to the book’s pages.

Art is identical with a state of capacity to make, involving a true course of reasoning. All art is concerned with coming into being ...
